What is follicular Lymphoma?

Follicular lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes B which represents about a third of all cases of lymphoma. Cancer is a form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma which usually affects adults, with an average age at diagnosis of 60. Follicular lymphoma is more common among women than among men.

Causes
Follicular Lymphoma causes are not yet known and the disease is not infectious or transmissible between human beings human. The cancer can not be communicated to a person to the other.

Signs and sympt40mes
Cancer usually begins with painless swelling in the lymph nodes of the neck, armpit or groin. Other sympt40mes include fatigue, loss of unexplained weight, loss of appetite, fever and night sweats.

Diagnosis
The diagnosis is based on the results of a biopsy taken of enlarged lymph tissue, which is examined under a microscope for the presence of cancer cells. Further tests including blood samples, x-ray and bone marrow sampling can be carried out to ensure the type of lymphoma and as it spread is.

Scaffolding and claim
Once the cancer is identified, it is parked to help determine the most suitable so treatment to help predict patient outcome in response to treatment. The non Hodgkin Lymphoma stage is defined by how many lymph nodes are involved, where they are located and if it spread to other organs such as the bone marrow or the liver. Cancer is categorized in four steps, where step 1 describes a cancer that affects only a group of lymph nodes and step 4 describes Lymphoma that has spread beyond the lymph nodes and concerns of others.

Chemotherapy is often given in combination with a called rituximab of immunomodulatory agent, which is a monoclonal antibody. Stem cell transplants are also useful. If the lymphoma is step 1 or 2, only radiotherapy is often sufficient to treat cancer.
